About Me

I am Andrew, an engineer, a dad, and a lifelong student.

I was born in Exeter, grew up in Amersham, and now live in Sheffield, UK.

My academic background is in electronics and semiconductor physics. A scholarship after university then took me to Japan to learn the language and work in the Japanese Semiconductor industry. That placement provided the first step of what would become a long career in semiconductor chip design. The industry has given me opportunities to collaborate with people and companies around the world, from small start-ups and consultancies to larger international organisations. I've loved the technology and the challenge of working in a field that continues to evolve at an extraordinary pace. It has been a demanding but consistently fascinating and rewarding career.

Outside of semiconductors, I have also developed a strong interest in psychology and cognitive neuroscience, in particular in how they relate to everyday life and mental health. Where does a thought come from, and why does it appear when it does? In 2026 I took the decision to take a two-year break from full time employment and study the subject on a full time basis. So I find myself back in academia as a student again, albeit a much older one!

I like to stay active through running and playing squash. In recent years, swimming has also become a real focus as I learn to refine my front crawl technique - something that has most definitely not come naturally. Computing and amateur radio are two hobbies I occasionally return to when time allows.
